Els Mommers

I am born and raised in Holland.

I earned a Masters Degree in fine arts and art education at the Witte Lelie in Amsterdam and worked as an art teacher at the High School in Lelystad, Holland.

My husband and I moved in 1987 to the beautiful island of Saba in the Dutch Caribbean where I taught fine arts at the Saba Comprehensive School. After 10 years of teaching on Saba we started a small ecolodge (El Momo Cottages) and I also opened a shop (El Momo Folkart).

Living in the tropics, surrounded by lots of color, inspired me to start art quilting and after retiring in 2009 I took a Creative Quiltmaking course. Since that time, my work has been exhibited from the Caribbean to Europe and as far as Asia.
