Hope Spot Stops

The Sea & Learn Foundation, together with the Saba Conservation Foundation, has introduced “Hope Spot Stops”—a network of nine fixed photo stations positioned at Well’s Bay, Dancing Place, Thais Hill, the Saba Botanical Garden, Spring Bay, Sulphur Mine, Mt. Scenery, and two underwater coral‑monitoring sites. Each station features a cradle that aligns a visitor’s phone at a consistent angle and height, allowing repeat images to be stitched into time‑lapse sequences through photogrammetry. These sequences help scientists track coastal erosion, vegetation changes, and coral‑reef recovery, providing vital data for understanding long‑term environmental trends.

The project turns every resident and visitor into a citizen scientist, fostering a deeper connection to Saba’s Mission Blue Hope Spot while supplying researchers with valuable information. Until the dedicated mobile app is launched, participants are encouraged to email their photos to seaandlearnsaba@gmail.com. Every submission becomes part of a growing visual database that informs conservation decisions and underscores the community’s role in safeguarding Saba’s unique land‑ and seascapes.
