Jonne Veldboom

Since Jonne Veldboom was a little child, he has had an interest in all that crawled, fluttered, jumped and flew around, especially birds. Growing up in a family where knowledge of nature and its inhabitants was always present, this was of course to be expected. Eventually this led to birdwatching being his main hobby and nowadays even as a side profession.
While part of the Dutch youth association for nature studies (JNM – Jongeren in de Natuur) he came into contact with other species groups, particularly insects. His main interests are Diptera, and to lesser extent Hymenoptera, specializing in Asilidae and Syrphidae flies.
For his BSc studies of Biology at Wageningen University & Research, he went to Curaçao studying its Heteropteran fauna, especially the Pentatomidae. While on Curaçao, several new Diptera species for the island were also collected. He hopes to continue this trend on Saba, having had little to no interest of Diptera enthusiasts despite its extreme pristine beauty.

We will be updating our calendar with activity dates and times as we continue to coordinate our event. Stay tuned!
