Marco de Haas

From the moment he could hold a binocular, Marco de Haas was interested in all living organisms. At first this focused on larger animals, such as birds and mammals. However, his curiosity for new discoveries pushed his focus to insects, specializing on true hoppers (Auchenorrhyncha) since he was 15. Marco has done fieldwork throughout Europe as well as in Costa Rica, French-Guiana and Bonaire. The Neotropics got his attention especially due to the high number of undescribed taxa. His goal is to describe new species, gather information on the ecology and distribution of species and to make this information publicly available. Marco currently works as an entomologist for the Netherlands Institute for Vectors, Invasive plants and Plant health (NIVIP) and is affiliated with the Naturalis Biodiversity Center. His working position has broadened his focus to now include Auchenorrhyncha (true hoppers), psyllids (Psylloidea) and aphids (Aphididae).

We will be updating our calendar with activity dates and times as we continue to coordinate our event. Stay tuned!
