Michiel Boeken

Michiel is a regular visitor to Saba, usually monitoring the breeding population of the tropicbird, and also looking for plants (esp. orchids) and invertebrates. To document the invertebrate biodiversity he organized the Critter Quest 2024-2025, at home better known as the Saba Estafette Expeditie (Saba relay expedition). After the successful edition of last year, he now organized a follow up, focusing on a.o. soil invertebrates, and also little studied organisms like fungi and lichens. Also a start with invertebrate monitoring will be made, especially focusing on pollinators.

Michiel will be on island from January 1-February 12, 2026, dividing his time between accompanying the other scientists and visiting the tropicbirds colonies. A public hike to the tropicbirds may also be a possibility!
