The Sea & Learn Foundation (SLF) will begin quarterly coastal cleanups (January, April, July, and October) on Saba starting January 2025, focusing on Tent Beach and Spring Bay. These cleanups aim to collect data on the quantity and types of litter, contributing to a global dataset on marine pollution. The standardized monitoring protocol, developed by the OSPAR Convention, has been used in other regions like Bonaire to assess trends in litter accumulation. This data will be crucial for raising awareness, shaping policy, and supporting litter reduction efforts.

Marine litter poses serious environmental, economic, and health risks to island communities, threatening wildlife, fisheries, and tourism. By collaborating with Clean Coast Bonaire, SLF will collect important data to inform local and global efforts to combat marine pollution. SLF invites volunteers to get involved in the quarterly surveys, and encourages coordination with their cleanup schedule to ensure accurate data.

Spring Bay: Saturday, January 25 from 7-10:30 am
