Amber Aasman

I have always been a bit of a scavenger. As a child, while on hikes or trips, I loved

gathering natural fragments - bark, stones, bits of moss - which became keepsakes,

holding a memory of adventure and time spent outdoors. That same impulse led me to early experiments combining wood with resin and metals, which eventually grew into my craft practice, Wild Blue Yonder in 2016. In the same year I also co-founded a woodworking collective, gaining access to a wide variety of tools in a shared space, and a community of passionate makers. Since then I have combined my interests in woodworking, metal smithing, design, and fluid media together in a full-time jewelry practice. All my work is crafted from reclaimed wood, lumber scraps, and fragments of bark, lichen, and flowers collected on travels through the forest. Small, intricate features of the natural world are celebrated in every piece. My work is available in galleries and shops across Canada, USA and Europe, including the Art Gallery of Ontario and the McMichael Canadian Art Collection.

Originally from Hamilton, Canada, I relocated with my family to Maastricht, Netherlands in 2020. Now, I create my work from a bright studio on the top floor of our cozy Dutch row house. I love heading out for camping trips, hikes, and adventures with my husband, kids, and our dog—always on the lookout for new inspiration from the natural world.
