Sea & Learn
Sea & Learn on Saba brings together the local community, visiting scientists, and nature enthusiasts to promote a deeper understanding of the value of nature—both globally and right here on our island of Saba.
Each year, the program welcomes 14 scientists with expertise across marine and terrestrial fields, all dedicated to sharing their knowledge through hands-on citizen science and community outreach. Together, we connect people with the natural world and inspire action to protect it.

Science in Action
Every other night throughout October, a different visiting Expert delivers a dynamic large-screen presentation, open to the public and free of charge. Locals and visitors become citizen scientists by joining field activities such as measuring the growth rates of Saba’s endemic orchids, spotting fluorescing scorpions on guided night hikes, or assisting in turtle monitoring and identification
Each activity is designed to spark environmental curiosity and highlight Saba’s unique biodiversity.

Inspiring All Generations
Sea & Learn is also part of the school curriculum, where scientists work directly with students—from kindergarten through high school—on hands-on field projects that reveal the importance of Saba’s ecosystems and their role in the wider Caribbean. Outreach at the LIFE Center ensures that Saba’s elderly community also takes part in this shared exploration, keeping curiosity and conversation alive across generations. This month-long event is made possible by the generosity of our sponsors and the enthusiasm of our local and visiting participants.
