Don Behringer

 

Dr. Behringer is a Professor of Marine and Disease Ecology in the School of Forest, Fisheries, and Geomatics Sciences at the University of Florida, where he also holds a joint appointment in the UF Emerging Pathogens Institute. He received his B.S. degree in Zoology from the University of Florida and his Ph.D. degree in Ecological Sciences from Old Dominion University. Research in his lab focuses broadly on marine ecology, with recent work aimed at sponge community restoration and the intersection of disease and invasion ecology, using lobsters, crabs, sea urchins, crayfish, and other organisms to answer fundamental and applied scientific questions. Dr. Behringer is an internationally recognized expert and has worked with colleagues from around the globe and published > 80 scientific articles and book chapters. He also teaches internationally, taking students on experiential learning explorations to the Caribbean and the United Kingdom. He was a 2015-2016 US Fulbright Scholar to the United Kingdom, he served as Lead Editor for Marine Disease Ecology – the definitive text for the field (Oxford University Press), and he was recently named a US Fulbright Specialist awardee to Croatia for spring 2025.
