Jesse Opdam
Growing up on organic farms in the Netherlands made him start to discover the potential of the earth beneath our feet. We humans depend on soils in many ways, but above all for growing food. His love for good food and cooking made him realize how fortunate people with access to sufficient food are. He has been engaged with global food security ever since, both knowingly and unknowingly.
After finishing Earth Sciences & Economics in Amsterdam, he started the master International Land & Water Management in Wageningen, thereby hoping to contribute to the search and development of sustainable ways of land management and food production.
For his master’s thesis he will be investigating the soil erosion on Saba and the potential ways of counteracting this. To make sure this will happen in an integrated and sustainable way, he is very interested in the islander’s perspectives on this issue and their views on the future of the island’s land management.
