Kevin Boswell

Dr. Kevin Boswell is a Professor, Director of the Marine Biology Program, and principal investigator of the Marine Ecology and Acoustics Laboratory at Florida International University. He is a marine ecologist whose research explores how marine animals interact with their environment, from coastal estuaries to the deep ocean. His work focuses on understanding the movement, behavior, habitat use, and ecology of marine organisms across changing ecosystems. To study these processes, Boswell’s lab combines innovative technologies such as underwater acoustics, autonomous aerial and aquatic platforms, and advanced environmental sensors to observe marine life in ways that are often impossible through traditional sampling alone. His team studies ecological patterns across a wide range of scales, from the behavior of individual animals to large ecosystem dynamics. The interdisciplinary nature of his research integrates biology, oceanography, engineering, and technology development to investigate marine ecosystems across a wide range of environments, from the Arctic to the tropics and from coastal estuaries to the deep sea.
