Kristen Tenwolde

Kristen Tenwolde is a conservation biologist and data analyst specializing in spatial ecology, biodiversity data, and geographic information systems (GIS). She works as a Conservation Data Analyst at the Atlantic Canada Conservation Data Centre, where she integrates ecological datasets from conservation organizations, government agencies, and citizen science platforms. Her work supports species assessments, conservation status evaluations, and regional biodiversity inventories, ensuring that high‑quality ecological information informs science‑based conservation decisions and regional planning.

Kristen is also completing her MSc in ecology, where she uses shorebird movement and occurrence data to develop species distribution models that help identify important stopover habitats along migration routes and fill knowledge gaps to support conservation efforts.

She has broad experience in field‑based ecological research, including her undergraduate work studying lichens, and continues to work hands‑on with a variety of wildlife in the field. Over time, she has found her niche at the intersection of biodiversity data science, geospatial analysis, and information systems. Her background spans both field ecology and data infrastructure, and she is particularly interested in how advancing technologies can make biodiversity data more accessible and informative for conservation practitioners and decision‑makers.

Kristen was born and raised in Atlantic Canada and now lives at the doorstep of the Bay of Fundy, where dramatic tides and rich coastal ecosystems provide excellent opportunities for bird and whale watching. These experiences continue to shape her connection to the natural world and reinforce her commitment to using biodiversity data to protect the places and species she cares about.

to science.
