Ryan Espersen

Dr. Ryan Espersen is a historical archaeologist, who lives on Saba as the Director and Co-Founder of the Saba Archaeological Center (SABARC).  He received his PhD in Archaeology from Leiden University in 2017.  Ryan studies ideology and powered relations of people in the past, and how it affected their landscape and material world.  He also specializes in later colonial maritime trade in the Caribbean, including piracy, privateering, and the transatlantic slave trade.

As Director of SABARC, he strives to actively engage Sabans in archaeological fieldwork as a means for them to participate in the discovery of their own history.  He is involved with several large projects on Saba in conjunction with the Saba Conservation Foundation and the Island Government of Saba, including the proposed Saba National Park.

Ryan Espersen will be presenting on October 3rd, 2018. We will be updating our calendar with activity dates and times as we continue to coordinate our event. Stay tuned!
