If there were ever a holiday tailor-made for the Sea & Learn Foundation, International Environmental Education Day is it. Seriously—this day might as well have our name on it. After all, if you know anything about us, it’s that we live and breathe environmental awareness and education. It’s literally in our motto: “Enhance Your Environmental Education.” And today, we’re celebrating everything that makes that mission come alive across Saba.
So cue Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World,” because that's exactly what we’re here to explore, protect, and share—every single day.
Education Is Our Superpower
Environmental education isn’t just something we do—it’s who we are. Each of our programs, whether front and center or behind the scenes, is designed to spark curiosity, deepen understanding, and inspire action across all ages. Kids, adults, locals, tourists—it doesn’t matter. If you’re on Saba, we want you to know the incredible natural world we’re lucky enough to live in.
Sea & Learn: Science Meets Saba
Every October, we bring scientists from around the world to connect with the community through hands-on field experiences, school programs, citizen science, and good old-fashioned awe. From coral reefs to cloud forests, Sea & Learn makes science personal—and unforgettable.
Science SEAkers: Making Middle Schoolers Fall in Love With Science
Our 6th graders get the full nature-nerd treatment through water monitoring, food webs, VR coral tours, and field sessions with real researchers. Watching their faces light up as they make connections—chef’s kiss.
BSO Garden Club: Growing Green Thumbs
Painting pots, planting herbs, beautifying The Bottom, learning how ecosystems work… our BSO kids get messy, learn tons, and help keep Saba blooming. Their plants keep growing—right along with their confidence and curiosity.
YELP: Youth Environmental Leadership Program
Where future nature leaders are made. Teens learn to conduct surveys, analyze data, speak with confidence, and advocate for Saba’s environment. It’s environmental education and empowerment in one package.
Critter Quest: The Bug Squad Returns
From January–March, entomologists and community members work together to understand the insects shaping our forests, farms, and future food security. Think of it as Saba’s very own biodiversity detective mission.
Hope Spot Stops: Snap, Share, Protect
Our scenic monitoring stations (yup—even underwater!) invite everyone to help track changes in Saba’s landscapes and marine environments. Take a photo, submit it, and boom—you’re doing science.
Turning Tides: Cleaning and Learning
Quarterly coastal cleanups that do more than pick up trash. We collect real data using international protocols to understand pollution patterns and protect Saba’s shores long-term. Science + sweat + ocean views = a pretty good Saturday.
Environmental Education Isn’t a Day—It’s a Lifestyle
Today might be the official celebration, but for us, every day is Environmental Education Day. Whether you’re planting in a wicking bed, spotting insects on the trail, joining a cleanup, or snapping a Hope Spot photo, you’re part of Saba’s growing environmental community.
Thank you to all the kids, adults, volunteers, teachers, scientists, parents, hikers, divers, and curious wanderers who help make Saba a model of environmental learning and stewardship.
Here’s to celebrating the wonderful world we live in—and to ensuring future generations can celebrate it too.
