If there’s one thing we love at the Sea & Learn Foundation, it’s celebrating the amazing wonders of our natural world—and today’s star might be tiny, but it packs a powerful punch. Happy World Pulses Day!
Yes, we’re talking about beans, peas, lentils, chickpeas… the humble heroes of the food system. And trust us, these little powerhouses deserve their own holiday.

Why Pulses Matter (More Than You Think)
Pulses are like nature’s multi-tools: they feed us, feed the soil, and help build a more sustainable future. They’re protein-rich, shelf-stable, and climate-smart—basically the superheroes of the pantry. Best of all? They naturally fix nitrogen, improving soil health without synthetic fertilizers.
On small islands like Saba where good soil is gold, pulses quietly play a big role in improving food security and resilience.

Pulses & Saba: A Natural Match
From home gardens to school plots and wicking beds, pulses help young growers (and grown-up ones!) learn about soil building, nutrient cycling, and the magic of growing your own food. They’re the perfect starter crop for new gardeners and a great experiment for curious kids—fast-growing, forgiving, and fun to harvest.
